When I originally joined, the join up letter I received was for an apprentice mechanic. Found out on arrival I was in the Infantry and then was changed to Ordinance. Trained as a petroleum operator in NZ and Australia. Left the Army while posted to Burnham Camp in April 87. Had various jobs and ran own logging business for a time prior to moving to Australia Found myself in Kalgoolie working in a gold mine and completed an adult apprenticeship as a heave duty diesel fitter. Spent 2 yrs at Freeport gold and copper mine at Irian Jaya, Indonesia and am now based in Mackay, Queensland. My current position is Maintenance Superintendant at Poitrel Mine 2hrs west of Mackay and I look after 50 personnel. I have a partner Debbie and we have 3 children, Chris 21, Grace 16 and Isaac 14. email bruce.ford@leicon.com.au
