I am now in Saigon, where I have been working as a Construction Manager for a consultant company the last several months. After graduating I had postings to 2 Construction Squadron, 1 Field Squadron, Works Services Singapore and SME Trade Wing. I left the services in Jul 1987 after 231/2 good years. The time in Singapore had given me the travel bug, so since leaving the Army I have been somewhat of a Gipsy. Cook Islands - 2 yrs, Tonga - 3 yrs, Solomon Islands - 1 yr, Vietnam - over 3 yrs in different places and at different periods, Africa - 2 1/2 yrs (based in Ethiopia, but regularly going to Yemen, Eritrea, Angola, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland, Kenya and South Africa - with a Japanese Construction company). Plus several 2 to 4 week business trips to Head Office in Japan, a couple to Vanuatu and 3 short trips to East Timor (all work related). Also a couple of stints of a few months back in NZ between jobs. I have no doubt that my time in the army and particularly cadets, gave me the skills and confidence to enable me to live that life. If any ex-cadets visit, I would love to have a beer with them, show them around a bit, etc E-mail: holt@hbpasia.com
