I am still in Vietnam. For almost 6 years now. I am working as a Construction Manager for a
project management consultant company. Four years of these have been in Saigon and the last year and a half in Da Nang/Hoi An area. Working on high class apartment blocks, resorts, cinema fit outs etc.
After graduation I had postings to 2 Constructin Sqn, 1 Field Sqn, Works Services Singapore and SME Trade Wing. I left the services in July 1987 after 23.1/2 very good years. The time in Singapore had given me the travel bug, so since leaving the Army I have been somewhat of a gypsy - Cook
Islands -2yrs,Tonga- 3yrs, Solomon Islands -1yr, Vietnam over 8 years in different places and at different periods. Africa - 2.1/2 yrs( based in Etheopia, but refularly going to Yemen, Eritrea,Angola
Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lecotho, Swaziland, Kenya and South Africa- wi5th a Japanese Construction
Company. Plus several 2 to 4 week business trips to Head Office in Japan, a couple to Vanuatu and 3 short trips to East Timor (all work related). Also a couple of stints of a few months back in NZ between jobs. I have no doubt that my time in the army and particularly cadets gave me the skills an d confidence to enable me to lead this life.
