Went through a turbulent time whilst enjoying my tenure in RFCU. After leaving RFCU under a bit of a cloud, joined the RNZN as a Radio Operator.(Sigs equivalent in Army) and really enjoyed the ease of basic training and further trade training. Not too much of a departure from school really. Had numerous postings to ships and numerous ports to play in. After a couple of years did the navy divers course and broadened the adventure factor. Reached the dizzy heights of Petty Officer and then went for Officer Selection. Became an officer Jan 90 and remained in the navy until 97. I did a great Longlook in 95 and a great UN mission in Cambodia in 92/93. Managed to meet wifey no.2 (from Wales). Left the navy after 20 years May 26 1997 and went on to the UK. Remained in London for 2 years and worked as a chippy in Isleworth. To think that my chippy skills learnt in Clubbies was now raising its head was incredibly gratifying that time was not totally wasted. Whilst in the UK did a number of short trips to Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France. Also a short trip to Cyprus. My better half during this period had rejoined her beloved Foreign Office and was temporarily posted to the Middle East and Belgium. We were then sent to Oman. The posting was for 3 years and most enjoyable. Another highlight of my travels. Managed to get into the rugby circuit and played for Oman in Kuwait, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain and really enjoyed participating in the Dubai sevens tournament for three years. We left Oman with mixed feelings but was grateful for the times with our Navy (visit to Oman of HMNZS Te Kaha) and a few nights with the changeover army crews to Afghanistan. Now we are in Santiago Chile, which we have been for the last year. Life is great and currently enjoying the snow and seasons of the year in comparison to Oman. Travelling still.......Amazon rainforest coming up soon...... Where are all the Burrows Class???? Come on lads, where the hell are you lot these days ?? This RF Cadet Website a great medium, get onto it.
