I signed up as an Electronic Technician (Telegoon) and after basic training spent 9 months at the School of Signals with the occasional trip to EME Schools. The learning curve was massive. We were introduced to so many great technologies - all that a young man could ever dream of. Had some great room mates, many class mates and have a few clubby-mates for life. We and our families still keep in touch.

After cadets and joining RNZEME, posted to Trentham, Burnham and Papakura. Was lucky enough to be posted to Singapore in 1985, returned from there to run workshop in Dunedin. Liked it so much that in 1990 got out and bought and ran the NOVUS franchise in the area until 1997. I then joined a company called MotorSafe which provided quality systems to garage and met up with many ex EME personnel at companies I visited. I am now working for Land transport Safety Authority in Dunedin keeping an eye on all garages, testing stations that issue warrants of fitness, certificates of fitness and now repair certifiers (panel beaters). I'm married to Laurie (25 years this year) and have 3 sons aged 21, 17 and 14. Look forward to hearing from anyone who wants to say hi. E-mail address Lee5@xtra.co.nz

P.B. Leishman (McKinnon class)
Cadet in 1979 graduated to RNZEME. Trained as a Panelbeater. Posted around the various workshops. Spent 6 months at Scott Base in 1988/89 one of the best things I ever did. Also took 6 months LWOP in 1987 and went to England etc. Left the Army in 1999 after nearly 21years. I've no idea how I lasted that long. Last posting I had was to Whangparaoa Camp as Manager/Caretaker. It was the best posting I had until the Army stuffed it up and gave the place over to the Navy. How unusual. Married to Judy (22yrs) with 2 kids Nik 17 and Dana 14. Currently we own Silverdale Mowers a reasonably large mower, chainsaw ride on repair shop. Main brand is Stihl and things are ticking over okay. So if you are in the area please call in for a chat. We are across the road from the Wade Hotel (Buck Shelfords). Still keep in contact with a few old Army mates. Always good to catch up.

After graduating at the end of 85 I returned with the other infantry cadets and assisted with the next years corps training faze. From their I went to Burnham and completed a shortened Corp induction programme. I was then posted to C company 2/1.I remained with 2/1 until mid 1987 when I was posted to B Coy 1st Battalion in Singapore. I was lead scout with 6 platoon and then completed two tracking courses with the Malaysian Army and then the 69 Police field force near the Thai border. I remained in Singapore until the end of 1989 when I returned to NZ with the last group to leave the island. I then set up home with the first Battalion in Linton before getting totally disillusioned with the Army after the cuts and signing my 717 in 1991. From their I applied to join the Police and was accepted in 1992 and have been with the Police ever since. I was first stationed in Westport until 1995 and then moved to Oamaru where I am currently. I have a wife, Angela, and three daughters, Jahn! a (2) and the twins Bryleigh and Tyla (1 year). I am proud to be Police officer and more so to have been in the Army and a cadet. I am aware of several ex cadets serving with the Police along with numerous comrades from the 1st Battalion. It was only recently that I found out about the association. (Feb 2001). Look forward to hearing from some of the old mates. |
