What a great year of hardships, fun and friendships. Clubbies
G.A. Ward (Rennie class)I came into the Cadets of '83 already institutionalized from 4 years at St Stephens Boys School.I found cadets easier than Hato Tipene and a lot more fun. Cadets was a blast! I graduated and moved to 2 Coy, Fort Dorset where I attempted to stay out of trouble. Alas to no avail.Once out of hospital in '86 I was transferred to 4 Coy Waiouru. That was my demise. Boy do they have the Army Manual fully read!! and some!!! I spent 2 haunting years in Waiouru. Forever on charge or trying not to go to Ardmore. Merdically discharged Christmas of '88. Spent many years enjoying the European life. Had a little time back in NZ. In '96 I left and am married to an American girl. Live in Massachusetts. I'm the Catering Chef for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts,Boston. Haven't been back in NZ for 14 years. I know it's still there cause the All Blacks are still playing rugby and NOT winning the world cup. I am also on facebook.

D.T. Whaanga (Burrows class)
Went through a turbulent time whilst enjoying my tenure in RFCU. After leaving RFCU under a bit of a cloud, joined the RNZN as a Radio Operator.(Sigs equivalent in Army) and really enjoyed the ease of basic training and further trade training. Not too much of a departure from school really. Had numerous postings to ships and numerous ports to play in. After a couple of years did the navy divers course and broadened the adventure factor. Reached the dizzy heights of Petty Officer and then went for Officer Selection. Became an officer Jan 90 and remained in the navy until 97. I did a great Longlook in 95 and a great UN mission in Cambodia in 92/93. Managed to meet wifey no.2 (from Wales). Left the navy after 20 years May 26 1997 and went on to the UK. Remained in London for 2 years and worked as a chippy in Isleworth. To think that my chippy skills learnt in Clubbies was now raising its head was incredibly gratifying that time was not totally wasted. Whilst in the UK did a number of short trips to Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France. Also a short trip to Cyprus. My better half during this period had rejoined her beloved Foreign Office and was temporarily posted to the Middle East and Belgium. We were then sent to Oman. The posting was for 3 years and most enjoyable. Another highlight of my travels. Managed to get into the rugby circuit and played for Oman in Kuwait, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain and really enjoyed participating in the Dubai sevens tournament for three years. We left Oman with mixed feelings but was grateful for the times with our Navy (visit to Oman of HMNZS Te Kaha) and a few nights with the changeover army crews to Afghanistan. Now we are in Santiago Chile, which we have been for the last year. Life is great and currently enjoying the snow and seasons of the year in comparison to Oman. Travelling still.......Amazon rainforest coming up soon...... Where are all the Burrows Class???? Come on lads, where the hell are you lot these days ?? This RF Cadet Website a great medium, get onto it.
R.G.K. Wharepapa (Page class)
After Grad 77, I was posted to 5 Support Squadron RNZE as a Plant Operator. I'm still in the system and have seen many postings within the Corps and have met some really fantastic people. Given the chance, and knowing what I know now, I'd definitely do it all again
Gavin Whenuaroa (Taylor class)
I really enjoyed the time I spent in RFCS; I met a number of good people, instructors and cadets alike. I learned a lot over the period about myself and others as well. I didnot remain in the army too long after cadets, however carried on with a good work ethic, which a lot came from self discipline and team work which I learned in RFCS. For the past 6 years I have worked at Auckland International airport as a Senior Customs Officer. |
