Victor Errol Davies (Barrowclough class)I had another birthday and I was wondering where all the years had gone Our story in a nutshell would take a book. Lynne and I are currently in PNG. I am working in Port Moresby for a company called Brian Bell - - I look after the Group Technical Services - very challenging.
Before coming to PNG I was contracting in Afghanistan- two years FIFO - Kabul & Pol e Khomri. I had several positions - Asset & Equipment Manager, Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager, Business Analyst and Camp Manager for the Hungarian PRT. Worked with an American OMLT setting up a Camp
We worked in Tonga - Lynne was teaching computing at a local school, I was GM of an A/C business, Division manager for Mitsubishi franchise and ended up managing a manufacturing business.
Lynne had a computing business in Katikati before we came up to PNG. This is all only half the story - like I said its a book.
Lynne's a lady of leisure - we have a house girl. Lynne gets back to NZ about every 3 months. We have just bought a small lifestyle block in Katikati NZ - have some sheep on it to keep the grass down; setting it up for one day when we retire - if that ever happens.
Here in PNG I have about 200+ staff to manage; that takes up most of my time; we are also rolling out a new business accounting / service management platform so between staff and IT stuff I am on the go.
Nutshell
All the best
Errol

A.H. Dawson (Puttick class)
Cadets to School of Signals. Underwent training as a radio/telegraph Operator. In 1959 posted to 2 NZ Regt and spent 2 years in Malaya as a "grunt" come signals operator. Returned home to School of Signals Waiouru as a Lcpl, got to Cpl. Posted to Papakura and selected for Vietnam in 1965(161 Bty) but found "busted' eardrum so trip cancelled for me. Finally worked my way up through to when I left in 1985 was a WO1 RNZ Signals with MSM, LSGCM etc, last posting was HQLF in Takapuna. Since 1985 have been with the "dreaded" IRD, First eight years as a GST Auditor/Investigator and for the last seven years as a Business Tax Information Officer (advisor) going around helping people who have started up in business and advising on their taxes, obligations etc. (Had nothing to do with the "wine box" either.) All the training in the army at the training schools came in handy, especially the typing as a signals op, Also the dealing with people as now its one on one advice and seminars to, Sometimes 80 - 10! 0 people at a time. Still with the IRD at the time of writing as well. If I shouted "Attention" within the IRD, half the staff would stand up, as their are a lot of ex Army, Navy and Airforce types on the staff around the country. Divorced not long after leaving Army( a common trait I believe) and still divorced at this stage although do have a partner in Henderson area (a long way Papakura-Henderson each weekend??) Along with my brother, have three standard bred horses, one pacer and two trotters plus a brood mare and a three year old gelding who is due to qualify to race shortly (another trotter). One of the horses trod on me which needed my knee cap being wired to my shin bone at Tauranga hospital in 1998(and the bloody horse won while I was being taken to hospital in the ambulance!!!).Other than the above, a pretty uneventful life-Regards to all that recognise my name amongst the many -Cheers. | ||
