I marched out of Cadets to do yet another All Arms Instructor's Course (the 4th in succession) & from there basic Sapper training, still in Trentham. Following which I was posted to Papakura CMT (Compulsory Military Training) as an Instructor/Hut Commander and completed 2.1 intakes. The .1 was the 3rd intake that was marched out again to let the K Force chaps in. I got the Korea war hots, not wishing to miss it, and so skipped over the Tasman and joined R Aust Engrs, in case the shooting match was over before I got there. (thinking as a teenager). When I did get to the "war area" I was posted instead as Fire Chief, BCFK and so had a wonderful war. After the 6 yr Army contract, I liked Fire fighting and joined the Melbourne Fire Brigade, but found that the pay at the time was too poor and instead of pursuing fire fighting as a career, joined the PNG Public Service as a Superintendent Prisons. I served as such for nearly 16 years then received the golden handshake at Independence. Great job while it lasted. Back to NZ for the 2 kids education and to settle down. Became an Auctioneer, 2nd hand dealer, Real Estate sales in Kaikohe Northland. Now working (2006) full time as an independent Debt Collector in Auckland. Great job, should have taken it up years ago. Married 40 yrs, with a pigeon pair offspring, both married. I live in Central Auckland Ph (09) 3772874. And have been inveigled into editing your web site. Cheers,,, Malcolm rfcnews@paradise.net.nz

Got out of the army many years ago, until I re-enlisted for some odd reason. I saw the light fairly smartly and promptly got out after about 2 and a half years. Since then I have dabbled in real estate, working in stores, retail, and heaps of other stuff. I finished off by studying for a degree, and I'm now teaching (God, who would ever have believed that!!) P.S. See a lot of Jake Wharewera (Sgt. RNZAC), remember him? efitz@paradise.net.nz |
